Training

Kalarama Farm’s emphasis is on quality, conditioning, and preparation; the goal is a successful experience for owners and exhibitors, and a healthy, happy, competitive American Saddlebred champion.

Kalarama Farm’s Champions
In Springfield, Kentucky — close enough to the Bluegrass’s heartbeat in Lexington to be convenient, but distant enough to provide a quieter, distraction-free atmosphere where the focus is on the horses themselves — Kalarama Farm has been producing champions for the record books for 100 years.

For his clients, Larry Hodge and his expert staff have selected and trained young horses to win world's championships at ages two, three, and four, in every division ... and including the juvenile, ladies, amateur, and open ranks. Under Hodge's direction, Kalarama's clients have accumulated more than 100 world's championship titles, including world's grand championships in all three major divisions (Five Gaited, Three Gaited and Fine Harness).

About Our Training Program
Hodge and his expert staff develop the talents and manage the careers of horses in various stages of training, from show ring prospects to seasoned campaigners. Many are prepared for amateur, juvenile, or lady exhibitors.

“I love preparing a horse for someone else to ride,” Hodge says, a surprising revelation from the trainer who has developed and trained two-year old, three-year old, and four-year old horses to claim world’s championships in every division offered. For his clients, Hodge selects, trains, and markets horses for all performance divisions.
